Barbara's Fishtrap Half Moon Bay Restaurants
A local tradition for over 40 years, Barbara’s is well frequented by locals and visitors alike. With a small dining room, the walk-up window on busy weekends is the way to go! Some of our staff will argue this is where the best chowder in town can be found and definitely do not miss the daily specials on the white board on the back wall.

Insider’s tip: no reservations, cash only.

It's Italia Half Moon Bay Restaurants
Known for wonderful fresh salads, creative pizzas and pastas and delicious grilled meats and seafood, It’s Italia is a local favorite. With a full bar as well as an excellent wine list, it is definitely a local gathering spot. On beautiful days, their Tuscan-style courtyard patio with fireplaces and a fountain is ideal for relaxing al fresco.
Insider’s tip: the full menu can be ordered at the bar – and you may just spy our owners enjoying a cocktail there!

La Costanera

Contemporary Peruvian

La Costanera Half Moon Bay Restaurants
In our opinion, La Costanera has the BEST view and dining on the coastside – perched on Montara State Beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This is the place for sunsets! The menu has something for everyone with terrific seafood, pork, foul and beef with unique – though not spicy-hot – flavors. The entire downstairs features their bar/lounge area with both comfy seating and communal bar tables and, of course, a pisco sour tasting menu. You’ll need to arrive early (we suggest right at opening time, 5 PM) to snag a seat on their outdoor patio.

Insider’s tip: dinner reservations fill up quick, especially on the weekends, but they serve their full menu in the lounge as well with no reserved seating.

Mezzaluna Half Moon Bay Restaurants
If you ask any of our staff who grew up in the area, “where does your family go for special occasion dinners?” their answer will be, “Mezzaluna!” Located in the historic Princeton Landing building which was built in 1908, Mezzaluna has been serving delicious Southern Italian fare for almost 25 years. They also feature a full bar and a wine list focused on local California and Italian varieties, but their dessert menu is where they really shine.

Moss Beach Distillery Moss Beach Restaurants
With the distinction of being the only restaurant in walking distance from Seal Cove Inn, the Moss Beach Distillery is definitely a guest favorite. With a storied history that even includes a ghost (the Blue Lady), its location perched on the cliff above Seal Cove makes it a perfect sunset cocktail spot. Their menu of seafood and American cuisine in a casual setting has something to satisfy every craving.
Insider’s tip: pull up a chair to one of the fire pits on their outside patio and snuggle under their throws. On weekends, there is a bar window open for serving the downstairs patio. If you’ll be walking back after sunset, just let our staff know and they’ll give you a pair of flashlights so you can find your way back in the dark!

Seal Cove Inn Pasta Moon
The perfect spot for a romantic celebration, Chef/Owner Kim Levin (we love women business owners at Seal Cove Inn!) has been serving local, farm to table cuisine long before it became a “thing”!  She works closely with all of our top farmers, ranchers, fishermen and gourmet artisans in the area to bring you a nightly menu sure to please.
Insider’s tip: ALWAYS order the specials! And when we make your reservation we always request their main dining room which we believe sets the mood for an intimate experience.

Sam's Chowder House Half Moon Bay Restaurants
The other contender for “best chowder in town,” is Sam’s, according to us. Sam’s is a bustling harbor-side tradition. Located on the bluffs overlooking Princeton Harbor, they offer true oceanfront outdoor dining and a casual and authentic seafood experience reminiscent of an East Coast-style seafood house. On a beautiful day, cocktails and an appetizer on one of their patios can’t be beat. While they do have a selection of fried seafood, their fresh catch of the day, Paella and Cioppino are hard to beat.

Insider’s tip: Sam’s has a teeny tiny parking lot and you may get discouraged by the number of cars parked along Highway 1. Don’t dismay – there is also a public beach access next to the restaurant, so some of those cars belong to beach-goers and surfers.
